Guigal in Parker’s Hedonist’s Gazette

July 25th, 2012

The Wine Advocate’s Hedonist’s Gazette has a great mention of Côte Rôtie crus from Guigal that Robert Parker tasted while at one of the top Chinese restaurant in the world. At Lung King Heen, a “breathtaking beautiful” restaurant overlooking the Hong Kong Harbor, he tastes Côte Rôtie La Landonne 1982 , Côte Rôtie La Mouline 1985 , and Côte Rôtie La Landonne 1983 .  Lung King Heen is the highest Michelin rated Chinese Restaurant in Hong Kong, and not only does Parker rave about the sensational food but he has great comments about the Guigal wines as well, giving two of them 100 point scores, as below.

The silky, complex, extraordinarily aromatic 1985 Guigal Côte Rôtie La Mouline [100 Points] is pure perfection. In total contrast is the masculine, burly, super-concentrated, impressive, meaty, beef blood-scented 1983 Guigal Côte Rôtie La Landonne [100 Points].

Schiopetto releasing wines with more age

July 25th, 2012

The Schiopetto family sent out a production letter explaining that the winery prefers to age their wines before releasing them.   The family continues following the philosophy their father instilled in the foundation of the winery, which is to produce wines of the highest quality. “We are referring in particular to the decision to wait longer before putting the wines on the market , that is in the second year after the grape harvest , starting from  the year of production 2007 , commercial year 2008.”

Decanter Magazine pairs Olympic Events with wine!

July 18th, 2012

Anthony Rose of Decanter Magazine gives readers a sneak peak of the 48 wines that will be served in the ‘prestige ticketing’ sections of the Olympic village so they can be enjoyed by everyone. As each event is paired with a particular wine, Bruno Paillard’s Blanc de Blanc Reserve Privee, with 18.5/20 points, was matched up with Dressage. Dressage is considered the highest expression of horse training, where the horse and rider are expected to perform from memory a series of predetermined movements. It requires an altogether different skill, according to Rose, “namely grooming, precision, elegance and not a hair out of place”.  His comments: “There’s nothing out of place on the elegantly groomed Bruno Paillard, and the same applies to his Blanc de Blancs Reserve Privee Grand Cru Champagne. This is a thoroughbred: toasty, pure Chardonnay with fine bead, a lively, textured, rich mousse and refreshingly dry, mineral aftertaste. An elegant Champagne dressed in the finest of liveries.”

Now Trending: Mas Belles Eaux

July 18th, 2012

In the Summer 2012 issue of France Magazine, Mas Belles Eaux 2008 Sainte-Helene and Les Coteaux receive a great mention of what is “Trending Now”  by Dorothy Gaiter.  A big movement is the Languedoc’s work towards producing top wines (such as Belles Eaux’s  Sainte-Helene), as well as wines that offer sensational price to quality ratio, such as the  Belles Eaux Les Coteaux 2008 (SRP $20). Gaiter also notes that  Mas Belles Eaux is one of the estates “turning heads”, and points out the excellent Wine Advocate review of Les Coteaux 2008 (91 points)!
