A Traditional Argentine Asado with Finca Decero

August 24th, 2011

Inspired by a trip to Argentina, Jeff Wargo GM and Chef Christopher took to translating Francis Mallmann’s cookbook ’7 Fires’ by setting ablaze the lawns of the Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead.  100 people packed out this funfilled event, featuring the amazing wines of Finca Decero. Below, some roast vegetables, salty cheese, lomo, chorizo, and a spit-roasted goat!

VINTUS South American Portfolio Tops Decanter!

July 11th, 2011

Decanter Magazine’s August 2011 cover issues looks at the 25 top wineries from Chile and Argentina (15 from Chile and 10 from Argentina).  Both Errazuriz and Finca Decero make the list, with truly great comments on both estates.

The Errazuriz review hits on the vision and relentless innovation (the winery, Aconcagua Costa plantings, Berlin Tasting) that have made Errazuriz an industry leader.  As for Finca Decero, it is the newest winery listed in the Argentine Top 10 and a special accomplishment that after only a few vintages it is considered one of the leading Argentine wineries; the review touches on Decero’s gentle approach in viticulture, winemaking and wine style, and the great value the wines offer.

We did a little sell here that you can see here.

Finca Decero Opens On-Site Restaurant

September 30th, 2010

Argentine icon Finca Decero has just opened a new restaurant to celebrate good food and great wine. The restaurant seats 40, featuring the delectable cuisine of Chef Matías Podestá paired with, of course, a fabulous slate of Decero wines.

“With a very cozy and well cared atmosphere, Decero restaurant will offer a three-course menu paired with the winery’s wines (Finca Decero Malbec 2008, Finca Decero Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 and Finca Decero Syrah 2007).

“’The menu we offer will be updated every season and will include three courses,’ explained Matías Podesta, the Chef in charge of the restaurant’s delicacies.”

The restaurant marks the official launch of Decero’s campaign to attract the domestic markets of Mendoza and Buenos Aires to the property. Catch a glimpse of the restaurant and read more here.

Decero Malbec in the SF Chronicle

April 12th, 2010

The San Francisco Chronicle‘s tasting panel gave Finca Decero the thumbs-up yesterday, including the 2008 Malbec among their top nine Argentine Malbecs.

Finca Decero Malbec 2008
“This bottling is a bit lighter-bodied, with Syrah-like berry fruit, ripe plum, pencil lead, spice and whisper of green bell pepper.”

After watching the rise of Malbec for several years, it’s difficult to argue with their final summation. “Argentine Malbec’s consistent style, value, drinkability and increasing visibility might help it become this decade’s Merlot.” There’s a lot of value to be had in these wines, and we’re proud to carry one of the finest.

“Rock-Solid” Decero Cab is Wine Spectator’s Daily Pick

March 13th, 2010

Finca Decero’s fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 is Wine Spectator‘s pick of the day, a nice little nod to one of the world’s best values in classic Cabernet. As James Molesworth writes:

“Rock-solid, with a juicy, muscular core of blackberry, black currant and fig fruit pushed by bacony toast and a lush, hoisin sauce-tinged finish. Has heft, but balanced too.” 90 Wine Spectator

Finca Decero Malbec: “Better than a lot of wines twice the price.”

July 13th, 2009

Tim Atkin, MW, was blown away by the quality coming out of Finca Decero, naming the winery second on his list of “up-and-coming” producers in the 2009 Tom Stevenson Wine Report and listing the 2006 Malbec as one of the most exciting finds of the year. Says Atkin:

“After only three vintages this Swiss owned winery is producing a deeply colored finely crafted Malbec that is better than a lot of wines at twice the price”

We couldn’t agree more. A scan of the review is here: Finca Decero – TomStevensonWineReport2009.
