Vintage Port 2008: Think Noval and Romaneira

July 31st, 2010

Jamie Goode’s picks for Vintage Port 2008 are no surprise: Quinta do Noval and Quinta da Romaneira. Writes Goode:

Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2008
Intensely aromatic with floral, olive, meat and dark fruit characters. There are blackberries, blackcurrants and plums. The palate is concentrated and boldly fruity with real depth a
nd some nice, spicy structure. Expressive and quite serious. Delicious now, but with potential for real development, with firm but fine tannins. 96 Jaime Goode, Wine Anorak

Quinta da Romaneira Vintage Port 2008
Very deep colour. Fresh, vivid sweet blackberry and plum nose is pure and intense. The palate shows lovely fresh, pure fruit: concentrated raspberries and blackberries with nice tannic structure and sweetness. An elegant, almost Burgundian Vintage Port with good structure. Try again in 10 years. 94 Jaime Goode, Wine Anorak

Jamie Goode visits Quinta da Romaneira

February 22nd, 2010

A video taken by Jamie Goode gives an idea of Quinta da Romaneira’s expansive riverfront site.  A truly beautiful property, and given the quality we already see in the 2007 dry reds and vintage ports, one with an exceptionally bright future.

Romaneira 2007s in the Wine Spectator

February 6th, 2010

2007 was not only an excellent year for Vintage Port, but the dry reds coming out of Portugal are showing fantastic balance.  These 2007s may be the best wines yet from Romaneira.

The Wine Spectator reviews were as follows:

Romaneira 2007 94 Points

Offers an refined mix of meat, spice and fruity flavors that are seamlessly woven together. Fine-grained tannins and plenty of Asian spice notes are also on display. The finish is smoky, seductive and juicy. Drink now through 2015.

R de Romaneira 2007 90 Points

A bit shy a first, but opens up with an array of plum and red berry flavors that are accented by coffee and spice notes. Finishes with plenty of briar and mocha notes. Best from 2011 through 2014.
