Bruno Paillard - Brut Rosé Première Cuvée, Champagne

Brut Rosé Première Cuvée, Champagne

Just as with the Brut Première Cuvée, this Rosé is produced from first pressing only. Pinot Noir makes up most of the blend (around 85%), supplemented by a touch of Chardonnay to add elegance to the fruit of the Pinot Noir. The Pinot Noir is pressed rapidly to obtain a clear white wine, which is then blended with the juice of some Pinot Noir vinified as a light red by leaving the skins on the juice. As with all the BP champagnes, the dosage is very low to produce an authentic brut wine. The Rosé Première Cuvée is presented in clear bottles to show its delicate hue.

A light copper-gold when it is young, the wine turns a beautiful salmon-pink when mature.  On the nose, the first aromas are of red currant, Morello cherry, strawberry and violet.  A light citrus touch denotes the discreet presence of Chardonnay.  Maturity brings aromas of black fruit like black cherry, blackberry or fig.

On the palate it reveals a sensation of ripe red fruit seized in all its freshness, confirming the olfactory impression: refined and fresh, with an elegant, quite long and delicate finish.
    • “I am not sure if the wines from Bruno Paillard were really this tight this past summer, or if my palate was on sabbatical, but all of the bottlings that I have revisited from Issue Forty have shown decidedly finer with six months of additional bottle age and this is another wine that I woefully underrated when I first tasted it right out of the blocks! The blend is comprised of eighty-five percent pinot noir and fifteen percent chardonnay, with just a dollop of still red wine added to the blend to give the wine its distinctively delicate copper hue. Today, this young wine is absolutely stunning, soaring from the glass in a beautiful blend of wild strawberries, tangerine, warm bread, a very complex base of chalky soil tones, citrus peel and a beautiful topnote of rose petal. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and dancing, with a great core of fruit, very refined, almost filigreed mousse, crisp acids and brilliant focus and balance on the very long and refined finish. Just a brilliant bottle of Brut Rosé, the current release from Bruno Paillard is really starting to drink well, but it remains a young wine and will only improve with further bottle age. A stunning wine! 2013-2030.”  94 Points John Gilman, View from the Cellar

    • "(made from 85% pinot noir and 15% chardonnay; disgorged April, 2011): Pale orange-pink. Spicy, floral-accented aromas of strawberry, cherry and blood orange, with a bright mineral overtone. Dense but vibrant, with excellent focus to its red berry and floral flavors. An elegant, precise pink Champagne that finishes with outstanding energy and length." 93 Points International Wine Cellar

    • "A rosa rugosa scent melds with hints of green tea in the deep red fruitiness of this rosé. It’s both floral and rooty, lacy and formidable, its bubbles glimmering through the flavors like light through red stained glass."  92 Points Wine & Spirits Magazine (2012)

    •  "The NV Brut Rose Premier Cuvee is another pure delight. Pale in color, Paillard’s Rose is all about minerality, drive and tension. This mid-weight, gracious Champagne literally dances on the palate with its exceptional grace. It is neither too delicate nor overly rich, but just beautifully balanced and harmonious from start to finish. The Rose turns more vinous with time in the glass, but it is an extremely versatile wine that can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with food." 91 Points Wine Advocate (2012)

    • "The new release of Bruno Paillard’s Brut Rosé “Prémier Cuvée” is a very young wine that is a delicately pale salmon color that recalls a bit the Rosés from folks like Krug. The wine is very young, but shows plenty of promise in its superb bouquet of tangerine, a touch of cranberry, brad dough, chalky soil tones and a dollop of orange rind in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and currently quite high-toned, with a good core of fruit, refined mousse, crisp acids and lovely focus and grip on the very long and snappy finish. Give this fine bottle at least a year of cellaring to blossom. It should age very well and should peak in four or five years. 2013-2025+."  91 Points John Gilman, View From The Cellar

    • "A crisp rosé, whit a light chalkiness to the texture, showing flavors of ripe apple, toasted almond, yellow plum and crystallized honey. Offers a floral, lightly smoky finish. Disgorged March 2011. Drink now through 2015." 90 Points Wine Spectator

    • “A restrained and yeasty style of rosé with a pale, onion skin colour. Made from mostly Pinot Noir with a touch of Chardonnay, it shows plenty of red apple fruit and has a fresh and appealing floral note on the nose.” 18/20 Decanter
