5 Puttonyos, Tokaj
Made from 60% Furmint, 30% Harslevelu and 10% Zeta, the aszú grapes (shrivelled grapes affected by noble rot and shrivelled on the vine) are collected manually one by one over the course of several vineyard passes in a total of 5 wooden hods of 55 pounds and poured into a vat of 136 liters of must wine, according to the method established in the 17th century. After a maceration of several hours, the “Aszú dough” obtained is filtered. The collected liquid is then racked into barrels where it ferments slowly before being aged 2 years in oak barrels.

2005 Vintage
In Tokaji, the Autumn of 2005 will be remembered, after a rather cool and damp summer, as an Indian Summer lasting until the beginning of November characterized by delightfully warm and dry days. The result of each aszú berry picking was, particularly those beginning in October, that only a relatively small amount of berries were gathered, but they were absolutely perfect. The Aszu of 2005 is of exceptional quality: plenty of acid, crisp, clear aszu flavors characterized by good length and balance. It is somewhat reminiscent of the 1999 vintage, a truly classic year for Tokaj.

Golden amber colored, dried apricot, blended flower honey, and almond and tobacco notes dominate the aroma. Complex and harmonious in the mouth, the characteristic acid content balances the sweet wine features.

“Very clean, fresh and fruity, showing orange blossom, peach and butter notes in a rich, medium-sweet style. It’s well-balanced and supported by moderate acidity, followed by a lingering aftertaste of peach.” 92 Points Wine Spectator
