Finca Decero - Decero Amano, Agrelo

Decero Amano, Agrelo

This flagship wine is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot from the best vineyard lots in the Remolinos vineyard. These lots have lower natural yields, and are also thinned to 1 cluster per shoot. Maceration is slightly longer for these lots, and fermentation times and temperatures depend on the characteristics of the particular lots.

    • "Saturated bright medium ruby.  Very ripe, high-toned aromas of black raspberry and sweet mocha oak.  Sweet blackberry and blackberry fruit flavors are complicated by coffee and mocha notes and given a light touch by nicely integrated ripe acidity. Finishes with brisk berry flavors and good lift.  A bit withdrawn today, in need of a couple years in bottle to absorb some more of its oak."  91(+?) Points International Wine Cellar

  • 2009 Vintage

2009 is commonly regarded in Agrelo as the vintage of the decade. The long, warm, dry summer with neither peaks nor lows in temperature provided perfect picking conditions for us to pick each parcel at its zenith across 23 days.  Malbec exhibits violet aromas and deep dark fruit, the Cabernet of 2009 showed particularly great finesse while Petit Verdot and Tannat have particular richness from 2009.  The final blend in 2009 for Amano was 60% Malebc, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Tannat.

Yields were between 1.8-2 tons per acre, and the must underwent a 7 day cold soak, followed by 10-12 days of fermentation in small wide stainless steel tanks (at lower temperatures for aromatic parcels - 78 degrees versus 86 degrees for parcels with greater concentration) and finally a 23-25 day extended maceration period.  The wine was gently basket pressed before going into new French oak barrels for 20 months of maturation.

Heightened aromas of violets and dark fruit flavors of the Malbec contrast with the elegant backbone of the Cabernet whilst the higher percentage of jasmine perfumed Petit Verdot and robust Tannat bring great depth and textural complexity to this wine.

    • "The 2009 Amano - Remolinos Vineyard is a blend of 60% Malbec, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Tannat aged entirely in new French oak for 20 months. It offers a very ripe, voluminous bouquet of mulberry, blackberry and melted tar with subtle undergrowth aromas. The palate is very well-balanced with juicy ripe red berry fruit laced with white pepper, orange rind and a touch of marmalade. It builds nicely to a ravishing yet fresh finish that has great persistency. If you are wondering, then the answer is -yes-: the 2009 Amano justifies the price tag. Drink now-2020." 94 Points Wine Advocate

    • "A lovely blend of 60% Malbec, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Tannat, this is strong, with aromas of coconut, cola, chocolate and pure berry. It’s a powerful wine, with a flavorful core of black fruit accented by coffee and burnt toast. Drink now–2018." 93 Points Wine Enthusiast

    • "Bright, deep ruby. Cassis, minerals, mocha and milk chocolate on the nose, plus a whiff of exotic coconut. Suave and silky in the mouth, with lush, sweet flavors of cassis, menthol, fresh herbs and fruity dark chocolate. An impressively pliant blend, finishing broad and long, with nicely refined tannins coating the palate. Very well made, but give it a year or two in the cellar before pulling the cork."  91 Points International Wine Cellar

  • 2008 Vintage

The 2008 Amano is comprised of 64% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Tannat. 2008 provided the idyllic vintage conditions for wines of finesse and longevity. This vintage will likely be rated as one of the best of the decade in Agrelo. The days were consistently warm but never peaking with heat, while the nights were notably cooler than in previous years. As a result the phenolic, sugar and flavor ripeness evolved in perfect unison. The dry summer allowed no rain to hinder the perfectly healthy grape conditions. Picking was by hand, parcel by parcel, in the early morning, about a week earlier than usual.

Heightened aromas and flavors of violets from the Malbec are followed by red fruit flavours, the Cabernet brings structural elegance and excellent length, the jasmine perfumed Petit Verdot and robust Tannat bringing firm tannins and textural complexity.
    • "Saturated ruby. Primary aromas of crushed blackberry, menthol, bitter chocolate, violet, mocha and minerals, along with sexy oak tones. Suave on entry, then dense, highly concentrated and firm but not hard, with a captivating restrained sweetness to the flavors of black fruits, bitter chocolate and violet. More backward and imploded than the 2007 version and built for the long haul. This offers loads of potential." 91(+?) Points Stephen Tanzer

    • "The 2007 Decero Amano Remolinos Vineyard is composed of 60% Malbec, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Petit Verdot and Tannat that was aged for 22 months in new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it displays an alluring bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, espresso roast, violets, black cherry, and blackberry. This leads to a layered, dense, powerful wine with a smooth texture, outstanding depth and concentration, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Give it 4-6 years in the cellar and drink it from 2014 to 2022." 92 Points Wine Advocate

  • 2006 Vintage

2006 saw a cool winter followed by a warm spring, resulting in even fruit set.  Summer was characterized by warm days and slightly cooler than usual nights - excellent ripening conditions.  Low rainfall from late February to the end of harvest led to an outstanding vintage.

The 2006 final blend was 60% Malebc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.   Aromas and flavors unfold beautifully, from the violets of the Malbec, to the red fruits and structure of the Cabernet, to the jasmine perfume and firm tannins of the Petit Verdot.

    • "The 2006 Amamo Remolinos Vineyard is a blend of 60% Malbec, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot barrel-fermented and aged for 22 months in new French oak. A saturated purple in color, it reveals a sexy aromatic array of pain grille, crushed stone, Asian spices, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur. Round, rich, and complex on the palate, it has superior depth and concentration, well-concealed structure, with chocolate covered cherries making a cameo in the lengthy finish. What an impressive debut for Finca Decero!" 94 Points Wine Advocate

    • "A ripe, lush style, with lots of blueberry, fig and plum notes all layered with alluring mocha and spice. The long, fleshy finish isn't overwhelming, despite its concentration. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot." 92 Points Wine Spectator
