Marina Cvetić Iskra

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane

Created in 2003, Iskra is a singular expression of Montepulciano from the Controguerra vineyard in Teramo, the northernmost province of Abruzzo. The quality of the fruit from this site was so good it was a spark (Iskra) and they realized they had to make an individual bottling. With high quality fruit comes elevated intensity and concentration that allows for, and requires, extended aging. Iskra is fermented in stainless steel, but aged in new French barriques for 12-18 months and is given an additional 24 months of bottle aging prior to release. The clay and iron soil components of the Controguerra vineyard provide the power and intensity of this wine while the limestone gives the wine minerality and brightness.
