Villa Gemma Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Another singular expression of Montepulciano, the Villa Gemma is produced in the original winery on the estate, which is also the winery used by Gianni Masciarelli’s grandfather. The vineyard that bears fruit for this wine is located on the hill directly behind the villa, at 1,200 feet above sea level, comprised of limestone and clay. This wine shows just how serious Montepulciano can get. After fermentation in 3-5,000 liter botti, the wine undergoes 18-24 months of aging in new French barriques before an additional 12 months aging in bottle. Rich and powerful, this wine displays aromas and flavors of wild black and blue fruit, spice and savory characteristics. Built for the long haul, this wine will continue to develop for 20+ years of cellar aging.
