Wine writer Fredric Koeppel chose Tommasi Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo 2014 as his wine of the week on Bigger Than Your Head, a website which regularly posts in depth-wine reviews that include tasting notes, winemaking information, and recommendations for food pairing. Fredric notes the Rompicollo is “excellent,” and a “dry wine that’s impressive for its heft and presence on the palate,” recommending it with “braised short ribs or the rack of venison.”

Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella 2014 and Amarone 2013 were both featured in the Arizona Daily Sun online in “Pine Wine: Holiday wines and gift suggestions.” Wine editor John Vankat describes the Ripasso as a “very good food wine,” that “beautifully emphasizes a lean style with pleasing tannins.” John then highlights that the Amarone “exudes a widely appealing personality” and “lingers long on the finish.”

The Capital Gazette featured Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella 2013 and Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo 2013 online in “Wine, etc.: Consider these 12 unusual wines for Christmas gifts.” Wine writers Tom Marquardt and Patrick Darr recommend a list of affordable wines perfect for gifting. They describe the Ripasso’s winemaking process, noting its “cedar, almond and violet aromas and tasty red flavors.” Tom and Patrick advise picking the Rompicollo if “you want to introduce your friend to super-Tuscan wines” because “it doesn’t come any better than this.” Editor Tom Marquardt had sampled both wines and confirmed they’d be featured this year before the new vintages were introduced.

We’re happy to report a new placement for the Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella and Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo in OK! Magazine, a weekly celebrity magazine (in the same model of European celebrity magazines Oggi and Paris Match). Jaime Rabb featured the bottles in the magazine’s “OK! Hot This Week” column, a weekly roundup of products and trends “A-listers” are loving at the moment. Jaime exclaims, “’tis the season for robust red wines!” She recommends pairing the Rompicollo & Ripasso with hearty dishes since they both “offer rich notes of fruit and spice.”

One of James Beard-award winning bartender Jim Meehan’s original Noval BLACK cocktail recipes was just named “Cocktail of the Month!” in Wine Enthusiast’s current “Best of 2017” issue!

The classic “Coffee Cocktail”  combines ruby port, Cognac, simple syrup, an egg, and grated nutmeg, and was featured in Meehan’s just-published book, Bartender Manual. Below is an excerpt from the article. Click here to download the recipe!

“This classic Coffee Cocktail famously contains no coffee whatsoever. It originally appeared int he 1887 cocktail book The Bar-Tenders Guide by Jerry Thomas. He wrote that the drink looks like coffee, which is probably how it got its name. Jim Meehan, proprietor of New York City bar PDT, remembers the first time he made this drink, over a decade ago. “I stood dumb-founded at the deliciousness the recipe yielded,” he said. “The surprisingly balanced cocktail was milkshake-like, with chocolate notes and dark berry fruit.”

Wine writer Clive Pursehouse notes the popularity of Prosecco, due to its “pop and its price-point.” Clive describes the Filodora as a “very fine example of Prosecco,” with a “floral accent along with sweet hay and ripe stone fruit aromas.” At a reasonable price, Clive highlights the “apple and pear flavors and even a slight note of almond” that this a classy Prosecco of supreme quality.
