“Another busy but rewarding harvest has drawn to a close.

This year’s harvest will be remembered as the shortest one ever at Dog Point Vineyard, starting later than normal due to the abnormally late summer weather and lasting only 21 days. It meant that we had all hands on deck, even the office staff were given a pair of secateurs to help with the hand picking!

The 2016/17 growing season began with warm spring and summer weather resulting in good bud-burst and desirable even growth. This was followed by a period of cool weather in early December and dry, and at times windy, weather mid-summer. Late February rain helped replenish the soil prior to harvest, and cooler but otherwise excellent growing conditions prevailed into the autumn, considerably enhancing the varietal characters the region has become known for.”
