Today we have one of the most wonderful press pieces we’ve ever had, with Philippe Guigal featured in the Wall Street Journal.

The Guigal story has legendary aspects to it when you peel back the layers. A devotion to the Rhone Valley, quality, and a work ethic that in one generation – in France – catapulted Guigal and the Rhone Valley to the pinnacle of the fine wine world. This article in some way illustrates the secret to the Guigal family’s success: an intense devotion to each other and to their work.

The column is What’s Your Workout, with the piece attached and the link here.

“Working parents struggle to fit in weekly workouts, let alone weekly date nights. Philippe Guigal, the third-generation French winemaker of acclaimed Rhone Valley winery E. Guigal, combines the two. Mr. Guigal, 41, and his wife, Eve, 34, go ballroom dancing every Thursday night and practice the routine they perform on the professional ballroom circuit. “When you work together in a family business, it’s important to spend time together in a different setting where you have a different focus,” he says.

Mr. Guigal’s mother forced him to take dance lessons at 14. He showed natural talent and started competing. “I practiced 14 to 16 hours a week,” he says. “My father worried I would become a professional ballroom dancer instead of take over the winery.” In 1996, he met Eve, who had been dancing since age 5. They married in 2008.”
