Their family traditions of making wine was sure to stick with both Ben and Nick, but Ben always had a clear focus – making wine! “I started helping out in the winery and once immersed in the barrel room, I didn’t want to leave. CNN’s eatocracy featured and article on Ray Isle, Food & Wine’s executive wine editor, and his take on Cabernet Sauvignon being the most widely planted grape in the world. The article entitled “The world’s most popular wine grape is…” talks of Isle’s advice on which Cabernets to buy and his top bargain picks. On the list is Heartland’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon! Ray Isle comments, “Star Australian winemaker Ben Glaetzer makes this black currant–rich Cabernet with fruit from the warm Langhorne Creek, southeast of Adelaide. With the new release of Heartland’s 2012 Spice Trader, The Great Australian Red, an important Australian wine challenge, awarded this Shiraz Cabernet blend 2 trophies! Spice Trader won The Get Wines Direct Trophy for The Best Wine Under $20 and The Amcor Closures Stelvin Trophy for The Best Shiraz-Dominant Blend. The Great Australian Red is a competition created by Australia’s Tyson Stelzer and the U.K.’s Matthew Jukes to showcase the best of Australia’s classic Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon blends.
