James Suckling recently put together a list of 100 of the best Super Tuscan reds so far this summer. Petrolo made the list with 2011 Toscana Bogginanfora, with a 96 point score! This is a brand new release from Petrolo, a version of his top Sangiovese, Boggina, aged in anfora instead of French oak. Suckling’s tasting notes are below:

“A wine with berry, coffee and hints of vanilla. It shows a peach undertone too. Medium-to-full body, with super well-integrated tannins and a clean fruity finish. Such purity in a Sangiovese. This was made in ceramic amphora. Very Burgundian texture to this. Like fine Pinot Noir. From one of the top Merlot producers in Italy. Pure Sangiovese from a single vineyard. A new wine with only a few hundred bottles made. Better in 2015.” 96 Points James Suckling
