The Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner published a feature on the Tuscan wine region of Val d’Arno di Sopra, ending with this hilarious (yet somehow classic!) photo of Petrolo proprietor, Luca Sanjust, standing at the top of the Galatrona tower during an electric storm.

The piece is the latest in a four-part series on appellations that were originally recognized and delimited as high-quality wine regions by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de Medici, in 1716. Luca and his family have long been at the forefront of a movement to have Val d’Arno di Sopra officially established as a DOC, which came to pass in 2011. The article makes some interesting points about the region (its similarities to Chianti, focus on organic farming, etc), and highlights a string of amazing scores from several recent vintages of Galatrona.
