Based in Barile, in the heart of Basilicata, Paternoster has long been considered one of the region’s most important wineries. The winery’s founder, Don Anselmo, learned winemaking from his father and started his own winery in 1925, producing the first bottles of Aglianico del Vulture. The historic winery now has more than 90 harvests under their belt, and has developed a reputation for producing elegant wines with a strong and authentic soul.

The estate extends over 50 acres and can be divided into several crus. These parcels lie on a natural terrace overlooking Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano, and have black soils of volcanic origin. Along with neighboring Taurasi in Campania, the area around Mount Vulture is considered one of the top areas for the production of the Aglianico grape, earning it its nickname as the “Barolo of the South" by many leading wine writers.

"Paternoster's Aglianico del Vulture Don Anselmo is one of the flagship wines of the region. Its international and domestic success did much to bring attention to this often forgotten corner of southern Italy. The wine remains a measuring stick by which younger producers test their abilities." The Wine Advocate
