Poggio al Tufo - Alicante, Maremma, Toscana

Alicante, Maremma, Toscana

This Alicante comes from from vines planted in a single-vineyard site called Bottinello, which benefits from a Southern exposure and a volcanic soil rich in tufo rock. After a 10-day fermentation period in stainless-steel tanks, it sees 12 months of aging in large Slavonian oak casks.  Very intense ruby red, the Alicante is deep and dark purple to the core.  The wine has a nose of vanilla, nuts and dark fruit, followed by a lush palate filled with cherry, blackberries, cut grass and dark chocolate.  Wonderful with Italian pasta with meat sauce, white and red meats, and cheeses.

    • "Saturated dark purple-ruby. Lively aromas of crushed dark berries and lavender. Distinctly bright and floral wine, with enticing sweetness and lift to its silky, fine-grained palate. Lavender, clove and bubble gum notes carry through to the long, perfumed aftertaste. Shows lovely intensity and finesse for an alicante, as well as enough ripe acidity to maintain its shape. Readers should be aware that this is 100% alicante bouschet, which is not grenache, but another variety that is better known for fleshy, sweet, in-your-face wines that are not as refined as this wine."  91 Points International Wine Cellar

    • "Alicante imparts bright berry notes and sharp tones of white almond and bramble. Poggio al Tufo’s expression is easy and fine with very nice berry brightness on the close. Pair it with pasta topped with melted mozzarella cheese." 87  Points Wine Enthusiast
