Quinta do Noval - LBV Single Vineyard, Porto

LBV Single Vineyard, Porto

Quinta do Noval’s LBV is a serious glass of port, one that truly behaves like an approachable vintage port.  It is a port of only one harvest, produced in quality years that allow the development of full body, aroma and palate. Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesca and Touriga Nacional are the major grape varieties, and all grapes are trodden by foot and fermented in the lageres at Quinta do Noval. The wine is then aged 4 ½ years in old wooden vats of various sizes.  A deep, rich brick red color, the nose is ripe, vigorous and fruity. The palate delivers a mouthful of fresh red fruits, with a solid tannic structure and a long, harmonious finish.

  • 2005 Vintage

Deep rich ruby color with intense nose of crushed berries and red fruits. Rich and elegant on the palate with spice, raisins and red fruit flavours. Well balanced with a velvety but firm tannic structure that leads to a luscious long finish. Ideally served as an accompaniment to cheese, dessert, or on its own at the end of a meal. This wine is unfiltered and will continue to develop in the bottle. As a result, it may throw a light deposit and need decanting.

    • "Succulent and fruity, with concentrated flavors of dark plum, blackberry and chocolate mousse that are backed by good grip. The sappy finish features hints of licorice. Drink now through 2025."  93 Points Wine Spectator's Advance

    • "Bottled Unfiltered in 2011, tasted single-blind. Possessing a healthy dark ruby/purple color with only a hint of pink at the edge. Evoking an elaborate mélage of fresh flower fragrances in addition to blackcurrant and blueberry notes, burnt caramel, pine needles and a hint of mocha. The palate delivers a medium weight wine which is seamlessly balanced by subtle acidity and well-knit tannins. This Noval LBV is loaded with ripe, fleshy and concentrated briar patch blackcurrent and blueberry flavors, bittersweet chocolate and exudes a long toffee infused finish. The 2005 is on the sweeter side of the spectrum and is only bested by Noval's 1994 & 1997 LBVs. Will drink best from 2015-2024."  93 Points Roy Hersh, For the Love of Port

  • 2004 Vintage

2004 marks the first vintage that Quinta do Noval is stressing the important point that all the fruit used in producing their LBV comes from the Quinta do Noval vineyard.  After major re-planting efforts carried out in the mid-1990s, Noval's vineyard is producing fruit of extraordinary quality, making for unparalleled wines from their Ruby Reserve level wine, BLACK, up to their Vintage Port.  The LBV Single Vineyard 2004 is yet another example of how Quinta do Noval is today making some of the most extraordinary ports in the world, with an approach unique to the top port houses in its extreme focus on site.

    • “The most recent release of Noval’s LBV, the 2004 has a primal bouquet with subtle aromas of blackberry, wild hedgerow, heather and a touch of liquorice. With further aeration it develops an engaging floral notes: more rose petal than violet. The palate is very well balanced with a seductive sense of purity with a very harmonious, dare I say, almost understated finish with touches of white pepper, dark cherry and tobacco. There is something austere that reminds me of a Claret, that dryness enhancing freshness and delineation. Wonderful.” 93 Points Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

  • 2003 Vintage

    • “A fine fruit selection for an LBV, this wine has fresh scents of violets and blueberries. It’s virtually the quality of a Vintage Port, with just a touch of harshness to the tannin. Stony, beefy and powerful.” 90 Points Wine & Spirits Magazine

    • "The 2003 LBV has a lifted, damson, black plum, violet-tinged bouquet with good definition, but taking time to open up in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, very feminine, smooth and harmonious towards the silky finish. This is so very polished. Excellent! Drink now-2025." 91 Points Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

    • "Black core. Not very expressive so the alcohol shows a little. Tangy and fresh and surprisingly juicy in the middle. Plenty of tannin but rounded if not yet resolved. Still have a good grip without any aggression. Quite closed so the finish is more spice than fruit though there's a kick of sweetness at the end. Long finish." 17/20 Jancis Robinson
