Schiopetto - Pinot Bianco, DOC Collio

Pinot Bianco, DOC Collio
This highly valued vine grows in a hilly zone, perfectly acclimatized to Collio. It is cultivated in a ventilated area, on marly soil. It produces small and compact bunches with rounded fruits, golden-yellow in color. After a manual harvest, soft pressing is followed by a brief period of aeration with no presence of sulfur dioxide. The wine remains on its lees for 8 months.
The first Schiopetto Pinot Bianco bottling was in 1970. It is always a dry, warm, elegant, intense and very fresh wine. Excellent when paired with entrees as well as fish, its body allows interesting contrasts when matched with white meats and creamy dishes.

2010 Vintage

"The 2010 Pinot Bianco caresses the palate with expressive layers of sweet, perfumed fruit. Pinot Bianco has long been a strong suit here, and the 2010 is no exception. Freshly cut flowers, pears and peaches wrap around the soft, supple finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015." 91 Points Wine Advocate

"Bright, pale straw-yellow with green highlights. Racy aromas of yellow apple, nectarine, parsley and mint, with an enticing floral lift. Suave, fine-grained and wonderfully light on its feet, offering white stone fruit and herbal flavors of sneaky complexity and concentration. Finishes long, with nicely integrated acidity and very good grip. Outstanding Pinot Bianco." 90 Points International Wine Cellar

2009 Vintage
Vintage 2009 started with a colder winter than the seasonal average, balanced by a hotter spring. Bud-break took place from the second week of April onwards, and flowering began between the second and third weeks of May. The summer had temperatures in the average for the season, with higher rainfall than usual in the first weeks, balanced by a hot July and August. The wines, at the end of fermentation, had very strong varietal notes and wonderful balance.
A very clear yellow with deep green tints, the Schiopetto Pinot Bianco has intense aromatics, with a floral bouquet that also features cherries, apricot and apple blossom, followed by a distinct almond note. On the palate, it is elegant and intense, with an almost velvety texture, and flavors of tropical fruits, vanilla and, again, almond.-
"The 2009 Pinot Bianco is a beautifully poised white laced with expressive fruit, jasmine and minerals. This beautifully cut, vibrant wine is endowed with notable polish and first-class balance. A long, focused finish invites a second taste. The Pinot Bianco is often a strength here, as it is again in 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014." 92 Points Wine Advocate

2008 Vintage
After a winter with higher temperatures than the seasonal average, 2008 was marked by a rainy spring and scarce light hours. Budding of vines started from the second week of April through the remaining month, while flowering started in the last days of the month of May. All along, the summer temperatures were within period averages, but with a rainfall quite higher than the average of the last few years. All wines, at the end of fermentation showed good balance and expression.

2007 Vintage
The vintage 2007 was characterized by a precocious spring with alternate periods of sunny and rain, permitting an homogeneous development of the plant. The temperatures and the summer precipitations, within the seasonal average, with good thermal excursions between day and night favored the accumulation of aromatic substances. The harvest period was in advance with respect to yearly averages but, despite that, the wines have maintained a good reshness and a remarkable amount of perfume, typical of cooler vintages.

"The Pinot Bianco has often been one of my favorite wines in the range and the 2006 is a strong effort. Made in a somewhat understated style, it reveals flowers, mint, licorice and white peaches on a delicately-textured medium-bodied frame of notable finesse." 90 Points Wine Advocate
