Telmo Rodriguez - MR, Malaga
MR, Malaga
Telmo Rodriguez named these rarities “Mountain Wines” after the 17th century English expression for sweet moscatel wines from the Malaga region. The vineyards are dramatic and spectacular, situated in steep shale slopes where not even donkeys can climb.
MR is a young wine from the Malaga mountains. More specifically, it comes from fruit that is harvested early on, and the wine does not see any aging in wood. It allows for a sublime fresh expression of the slate site.

2007 Vintage
MR was picked by hand and then fermented by native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. It was bottled in May 2009, capturing its freshness, but in no way dampening the incredible range of complex floral and tropical fruit notes.

"Deep yellow-gold. Ripe peach and nectarine on the nose, with exotic notes of gingerbread and orange marmalade adding complexity. Sweet, fleshy, expansive pit fruit nectar flavors are lifted by a gentle minerality, which adds back-end cut. Energetic for a late-harvest wine: there's no syrupy character here at all. Finishes with very good clarity and spicy persistence." 91 Points International Wine Cellar
