Telmo Rodriguez - Basa, Rueda

Basa, Rueda

The Verdejo, Viura and Sauvignon Blanc blend has year after year been named one of Spain’s and the world’s great white wine values. The intense floral aromatics, freshness and wonderful texture are the result of the high elevation plantings in lime and gravel soils, with good drainage, that give rise to some of the best quality white wine grapes in Spain.

    • "An exceptional wine: fresh, full bodied, and crisp, with excellent balance and length. It tastes of pear, peach, lemon grass, grapefruit, and honeysuckle. Unusually refreshing and complex for a wine at this price! 85% Verdejo, 10% Viura, 5% Sauvignon Blanc."  5 Stars Restaurant Wine Magazine

  • 2010 Vintage

In 2010 Basa is an 85% Verdejo, 12% Viura and 3% Sauvignon Blanc blend, with a touch more Viura than in previous vintages. 2010 was an abundant vintage, though the harvest took place slightly later this year due to a bout of September rain. As always, it is a fantastically refreshing yet serious bottle of wine, with a range of aromas and flavors from stony mineral notes to citrus to tropical fruit.

    • "Light yellow-gold.  Spicy aromas of orange, dried pear and tarragon.  Dry and taut, with bitter pear skin and orange pith flavors lifted by tangy acidity.  The dry finish shows good clarity and a faint hard edge, with the pear note repeating." 88 Points International Wine Cellar

    • "The white wines in his latest collection include the 2008 Basa, a blend of 60% Verdejo, 30% Viura, and 10% Sauvignon Blanc from the DO of Rueda. The wine was fermented and raised in stainless steel. Medium straw-colored, it gives up an expressive perfume of fresh herbs, baking spices, citrus, melon, and floral notes. Round and vibrant on the palate, it has excellent volume, concentration, and focus. Drink this tasty effort over the next 12-18 months. It is an excellent value.” 88 Points Wine Advocate
