Le Prunée Merlot

delle Venezie IGT

Tommasi's Merlot is grown at the Prunea estate in the Sant'Ambrogio valley of Valpolicella Classico, acquired by the Tommasi family in 1997. Le Prunée is a sub-section of this vineyard, and is planted partially to Merlot  grapes. The name “Le Prunée” refers to the extremely rigorous process used to train the vines – the vineyard rows are very close together, and the intense, severe pruning results in a low yield. The grapes are fermented entirely in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels of 65 hectoliters.  Le Prunée Merlot offers aromas of chocolate, berry, and coffee, soft, succulent tannins and a lasting finish.  It is wonderfully paired with first courses that have meat sauces, white meats, and fresh cheeses.
