It’s true! This Holiday season Fitness Magazine recommends 15 different wines to try while planning your holiday dinner menu. Under the “Slice Up the Pies” section, Master Sommelier Gillian Ballance suggests Disznókő’s 5 Puttonyos when heading into dessert. “You want to try to match the wine to the wintery spice flavors in your pie, like apple and pumpkin, and not have the wine be too strong or heavy”, says Ballance. Pie and Disznókő 5 Puttonyos will not only make you feel the holiday spirit but can be an important part of your holiday diet!

This year’s Wine Spectator Top 100 includes three VINTUS wines! They are: Tommasi’s Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo 2011 (#31), Disznoko’s 5 Puttonyos 2006 (#75), and Guigal’s Cote-Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis 2010 (#77).

Tommasi’s Rompicollo 2011 was the #1-ranking value from Italy of the entire year. With 92 points, the Rompicollo 2011 offers a drinking experience that is “rich and supple, with ample structure for support and a long, fruit-, spice- and mineral-filled aftertaste.” Click here for a PDF of the review.

Saveur Magazine’s December 2014 Holiday Issue featured Disznoko’s 5 Puttonyos 2007 in the article “How Sweet it is” by Elin McCoy.  The article compliments sweet wines as great “bookends” to a holiday meal. “Sauternes is ideal for sipping with foie gras at the start of dinner; tokaji and santo shine later with nuts, cheeses, plum pudding, or an Italian panettone.” McCoy’s tasting notes for the 2007 5 Puttonyos are as follows, “Bright fruit aromas and rich pear and almond flavors mark this wine from a superb vintage.”

The November 2014 Issue of Westchester Magazine feature an article entitled “Dessert Wines for Thanksgiving”, with Disznókö’s 5 Puttonyos 2007 front and center.  Westchester Magazine’s Leslie-Anne Brill writes that Cali Palmer, proprieter of Wine at Five in Rye, suggests the 2007 5 Puttonyos as one of the wines you should be drinking on Turkey Day. The article gives in-depth details about the region’s history, winemaking practices, and the Aszú grapes that make the legendary Tokaji sweet wines. In the recent October-November issue of the Sommelier Journal, Disznókö is recognized as one of three wines for “Best in Show”. The 2007 5 Puttonyos is described as “sound with great acid and high potential for BTG sells.” Click here to see all their top choices for the holidays.

An article in the Connecticut Cottages and Gardens, “When Opposites Attract” by Sheri de Borchgrave, focuses exclusively on Quinta do Noval and Disznoko. Borchgrave says “pairing stinky cheese with sweet wines is a treat for the senses”. She gives several different cheese options that pair nicely with a rage of Noval and Disznoko wines. For example, Colston Bassett Stilton (a “Royal Blue” cheese) is pair with Noval’s 10 Year Old Tawny or with Disznoko’s 5 Puttonyos 2007. Click here to see more pairings.

This June Disznoko GM and Winemaker Laszlo Meszaros held a vertical tasting in New York City with the press.  The August 2014 issue of The Tasting Panel features an article “Summer Travels: A Trip of the Taste Buds” by Lana Bortolot which covers the tasting.  Bortolot calls Disznoko wines “liquid gold”, and there is nice background on Disznoko’s pre-eminence in Tokaj from the very start of the appellation (in 1732!).  Click here to read the full article.
