Jeb Dunnuck of the Wine Advocate has struck out on his own. See here one of the first articles on his new Web site, in which he blogs about recent dinner with some great bottles from his cellar. Great comments about Ferrer Bobet and Mitolo!

“Chez Dunnuck – Dinner with Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s Anne-Charlotte Mélia Bachas

As to the reds, the 2008 Priorat Vinyes Velles from Ferrer Bobet comes from crazy schist soils and is a mix of Grenache and Carignan. This beauty was ripe, chocolaty and elegant, with tons of black raspberry, currants, violets, incense and scorched earth characteristics. It has bright acidity and while mature, is still lively and fresh. Unfortunately, the 2003 Mitolo Shiraz GAM was subtly corked, but this is a monumental wine I’ve been lucky enough to drink more than a case of. When it’s on, it flirts with perfection. One of the surprises of the evening was the 2007 St Henri Shiraz, and this incredible Shiraz was singing! Deep, layered and unctuous, it offered lots of blackcurrants, chocolaty oak, smoke and licorice as well as a killer, silky, elegant, and seamless texture. This is a downright sexy beauty that’s going to have another two decades of longevity.

The Sun Times, Florida, published a piece from Marco Porto, owner of Chop239 and wine connoisseur, on his favorite wine from McLaren Vale. The 2011 G.A.M. from Mitolo, “is a luscious, textured palate pleaser packed with dark, brooding plum flavors, liquorice, and black olive. The tannins are soft and fine, providing a gentle framework for the deep fruit creating a generosity, a sense of comfort that is such a feature of Shiraz in that unique part of the world.” says Porto. Wine Enthusiast published a recent article entitled “What to Toast for Fall’s Best Moments: Five autumn milestones, five pitch-perfect wines”. The perfect wine pairings for all the fall favorite moments and Mitolo’s 2013 Jester Shiraz is a top choice for the WE editors. A Tailgate Grilling moment is paired with 2013 Jester Shiraz, “Your alma mater may have started the season 0-4, but you still take tailgating seriously—and this hearty Shiraz is no joke. The smoky, meaty nose blends right into the char-grilled scents of the day, while the bold fruit flavors leave a lasting impression—like the indentation in the field left by your quarterback after he’s been sacked for the fifth time.” says Joe Czerwinski, one of WE’s editors. Mitolo’s 2012 Jester Cabernet Sauvignon was featured on Drinkmemag.com “8 Delicious Cabs under $20”.  Not only was the Jester Cabernet number 1 on their list of crowd pleasing Cabernets with great value, but it also received some great comments. “Bright, lush and juicy with a full-bodied palate and mouth-filling richness – that’s what Jester Cabernet Sauvignon is all about. Bold red fruits with soft juicy tannins prolonged over a long lasting velvety finish. You’d be a clown not to try it.” You can check out the full list here or on our Facebook and Twitter page.

The Wine Spectator just featured an article with a first look at vintage quality in the South Pacific, as reported by growers and winemakers.  The 2012 vintage could be a return to normal for Southern Australia’s winemakers following the wet and challenging 2011 harvest, which produced grapes with low sugar levels. Despite the smaller-than-average crop, vintners are excited about the potential quality of the vintage.   Frank Mitolo, along with many others, reports good concentration and color in both red and white wines that are now in barrel. “The low yields are likely a combination of the strong winds experienced this season, low soil moisture from a dry spring, and the low bud fruitfulness resulting from the challenging 2011 season,” said Mitolo.
