Domaine des Baumard Savennières Clos de Papillon 2014 (90 W&S)
“Brisk and clear as a bell in its evocation of bright quince and briny green olives, this is impeccably clean. While the critic found it luscious, others considered it overtly creamy, though everyone agreed it was a classic Savennieres.”
Domaine des Baumard
If Savennières produces some of the most compelling dry white wines in the world, the Clos du Papillon plot within Savennières , so named for its butterfly shape, concentrates and magnifies all the characteristics of this small, distinct appellation. Baumard is the largest owner of this vineyard, with the best holdings, and the wines display a captivating combination of ripe orchard fruit, floral, and mineral notes, within a structure able to age decades.
Loire Valley, France
Domaine des Baumard has been planted with vines since 1634, and has remained in the same family since then. In the mid-20th century, however, is when the estate started to build a reputation as one of the greatest white wine producers in the Loire Valley, and the world.
