Ponzi Vineyards Avellana Pinot Noir 2017 (91 WA)
“The 2017 Pinot Noir Avellana Vineyard, aged 20 months in 50% new French oak, has a medium ruby color and aromas of blackberries and red berries with notes of blood orange peel, underbrush and cured meats. Medium-bodied, the palate has dense, concentrated fruits with a grainy frame and good freshness, finishing long and über spicy.”
Willamette Valley, Oregon
Avellana is a “younger” vineyard planted in 2006. Winemaker Luisa Ponzi’s goal is to allow the wines to express these characteristics each vintage through single vineyard expressions. Avellana yields a richer, weightier style of Pinot Noir as compared to the Aurora single vineyard wine.

Dick and Nancy Ponzi helped put Oregon on the map in the United States and the world. The mantle has been picked up by daughters Maria and Luisa Ponzi, who continue the family history of leadership and innovation in the region and, in the case of Pinot Noir, across the country.
