Condrieu 2017

Condrieu

Condrieu is the ancestral home of the Viognier vine and is the source of one of the world's most exotic white wines. In the mid-20th century, only 20 acres of Viognier remained in Condrieu, leaving the grape and the appellation in serious jeopardy. Guigal was instrumental in bringing this appellation back from near extinction, and today supplements the grapes from their own vineyards with grapes purchased from numerous small growers, ultimately vinifying nearly one-third of the entire appellation.

Vinous Media "Pale, green-tinged gold. Heady citrus and orchard fruit aromas, along with a sexy floral overtone and a hint of peach nectar that gains strength as the wine opens up. Silky…

Wine Advocate "One-third of the 2017 Condrieu sees new oak, while the rest goes into stainless steel. The wine remains very floral and fresh, with apricot and melon flavors joined by hints…

Jeb Dunnuck "Leading off with the two Condrieu releases, the 2017 Condrieu offers an exotic, fresh, vibrant style that’s going to gain weight with time in bottle. Terrific notes of pineapple, green…

Crozes-Hermitage Blanc 2017

Crozes-Hermitage

Crozes-Hermitage can be considered the gateway to the red and white wines of the Northern Rhône Valley. Whites make up a small percentage of production in the Rhône, under 2%, but white wines are a little bit of a secret speciality at Guigal and today comprise 25% of their production. And for good reason, as the whites of the Northern Rhône are true discovery wines, immensely appealing and complex.

Vinous Media "Light, bright straw-yellow. High-pitched aromas of orange zest, apple and honeysuckle, along with a subtle overlay of dusty minerals. Dry and focused on the palate, offering nicely concentrated citrus fruit…

James Suckling “Some good complexity and depth here with a fleshy and ripe, melon, pear and apple core. Some white peaches, too. The palate has layered texture and beautiful, apple and pear…

Gigondas 2015

Gigondas

Guigal’s Gigondas is an incredible introduction to serious Southern Rhône reds, and a show-stopper at the price. In the hands of Guigal, the rich ripe fruit and savory character of the wine bursts with sheer pleasure, yet the wine displays terrific refinement, complexity, length and ability to age.

James Suckling "This offers ripe and brambly red plum and darker berry aromas with earth, pepper and spice, too. The palate has quite a punchy feel with meaty tannins, carrying darker plum…

Wine Spectator "Sleek and open in feel, featuring racy red currant and damson plum coulis flavors, inlaid with sandalwood and rooibos tea hints, with chalky minerality. Not big, but balanced and focused.…

Wine Advocate “The 2015 Gigondas is remarkable for its elegance. Sourced largely from higher-altitude vineyards, it’s evolved in a red-fruited direction, offering cranberry and cherry notes accented by hints of clove and…

Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2017

Côtes du Rhône

Guigal’s Côtes du Rhône Blanc both sets and steps outside the standard for the appellation and showcases one of the great secrets of the Guigal family: their specialization in the great white Rhône varieties. While only 8% of the Rhône's production is white, a full 25% of Guigal’s production is white and they are today the single largest producer of whites in the Rhône Valley.

Vinous Media "Limpid, glistening gold. Nectarine, pear and Meyer lemon take on a fennel nuance as the wine opens up. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering ripe citrus and orchard fruit…

Wine Enthusiast "Baked apple, cardamom and smoke introduce this full-bodied, lusciously waxen white. It's a rippling, textural wine that finishes on an elegantly salty tang."

Jeb Dunnuck "The 2017 Côtes du Rhône Blanc has lots of Grenache Blanc as well as other permitted varieties. Notes of white flowers, citrus, and honeysuckle all emerge from this medium-bodied, vibrant…

A seamless balance of freshness and fruitiness, pleasure and interest, and flavors and structure. Guigal’s specialty in whites is especially evident in this wine.

Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis 2015

Côte-Rôtie

The Guigal family spent 15 years restoring Château d'Ampuis, a historic property whose oldest sections date to the 11th century. The Château d’Ampuis has been the symbol of the town of Ampuis and the world-renowned Côte-Rôtie vineyard area for ten centuries. When the Guigal family learned that there was at one time a wine produced with the Château d’Ampuis name, they decided to produce an exceptional wine that would showcase the best that Côte-Rôtie has to offer.

James Suckling "Impressively deep aromas of graphite, tar, dark plums, blackberries, chocolate, pepper and all manner of baking spices. The palate has a super rich and attractive feel with smooth tannins, saturated…

Wine Spectator "A gorgeous core of steeped raspberry, boysenberry and fig fruit gives this a showy side. A lush structure flows underneath, while long echoes of warm ganache, black tea and espresso…

Jeb Dunnuck "Scheduled to be bottled just after this visit, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Château D'Ampuis reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of smoked black fruits, caramelized…

Vinous Media "Brilliant violet. Powerful, smoke-tinged dark berry preserve, candied violet, olive and fruitcake aromas show excellent clarity and pick up a spicy element with air. Palate-staining blackberry, cherry liqueur, bitter chocolate…

Wine Advocate “The 2015 Cote Rotie Chateau d'Ampuis finally approaches the lofty goals set for it by the Guigal family. It’s a bit toasty from the barrel but full-bodied, ripe and concentrated.…

Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015

Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Guigal produces an intensely concentrated, inviting and complex Châteauneuf-du-Pape that is almost unique to the region today. Their passion for Châteauneuf, the leading appellation of the Southern Rhône, runs as deeply as that for their home sites in the Northern Rhône.

Wine & Spirits "“So sexy” were the first words I wrote after smelling this wine, marveling at the way a combination of taut herbal notes, earth and lush fruit could evoke such a…

Saint-Joseph 2015

Saint-Joseph

Saint-Joseph today is one of the most exciting appellations in the Rhone Valley, and dare we say all of France. The work by leading producers such as Guigal, energy from young growers, and recognition (really, re-discovery) of sites capable of making wines of extraordinary depth and complexity; of the same family as its famous neighbor in Hermitage, but with a distinct suppleness and elegance.

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator “Inviting, with a core of warm raspberry, fig and blackberry compote flavors with roasted apple wood and anise notes. Shows brambly grip through the finish.”

Côtes du Rhône Rosé 2017

Côtes du Rhône

The Guigal family has made serious rosé wines since the 1940s, and their Côtes du Rhône Rosé, like all their Côtes du Rhône wines, is humble in name only. The wine bursts with irresistible fresh red fruits and yet is also long and satisfying. Because of its quality and body, it's a rosé that you can bring to the table, and do so all year long. It is a rosé that offers both refreshment and pleasure.

Jeb Dunnuck "There are two rosés, a slightly lighter styled Côtes du Rhône rosé and a richer Tavel. The 2017 Côtes du Rhône Rosé offers pretty, fresh notes of cherries and strawberries,…

Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2015

Cotes du Rhone

Given that this particular wine can be the introduction to the entire Rhône Valley for a drinker, as well as the position they occupy in the Rhône, it is not enough for the Guigals to make a good Côtes du Rhône. They are relentlessly driven to produce a distinctive and outstanding wine that drives interest in exploring the entirety of the Rhône.
